SAVE THE RIDGE EVENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Arts for Peace and Save the Ridge are cosponsoring "A
Celebration of the Shawangunk Ridge: An Earth Day Event" including an art
show, live music, and discussion of the proposed development of the Awosting
Reserve on Saturday, April 19, 2003, 5pm at the Living Seed Gallery and Yoga
Center at 521 Main St/Rt. 299 in New Paltz.
The art show, which runs through May 10, will feature some of the areas most
prominent artists who draw inspiration from the Shawangunk Ridge, including
Hardie Truesdale, Jane Bloodgood-Abrams, Steve Jordan, Fran Sutherland,
Sandra Cranswick, Lewis Scheffey, Pattie Eakin, Katherine Gray, George
Wexler, Thyra Davidson, Mary Leary, Jebah Baum, Josephine Bloodgood, and many
others. Works on exhibit will include photography, paintings, and prints, as
well as three-dimensional work and feature views of and from Minnewaska State
Park, the Mohonk Preserve, Sam's Point, and the Awosting Reserve, as well as
less literal and varied visual interpretations of this unique and beautiful
region.
Refreshments will be served. Music will be provided by local performers such
as SEED, an electic, accapella group that recently performed at a Peace Rally
in downtown New Paltz. Representatives from Save the Ridge and Friends of
the Shawangunks will be on hand to discuss the impact of development on the
Shawangunk Ridge and why this issue has stirred so much controversy in our
community.
The event is free. The art exhibition will continue through May 10 and is
open to the public, Wednesday - Friday 12 - 4 pm, and Saturdays, 11 - 2 pm.
The Living Seed is located at 521 Main St/ Route 299 (less than 1/2 mile east
of the Thruway).
